Job Description

Under direction, oversee the daily work of survey personnel and consultant personnel performing survey work. 

Essential Functions: Assist in organizing, overseeing, and assigning the work of survey personnel or consultant personnel performing survey work; solve problems and participate in unusual projects; review the work of consultant personnel to ensure conformance with District standards and legal requirements; provide technical assistance to District staff and the public; assist in training of personnel; maintain records and prepare reports.

Survey Duties: Prepare and seal survey related documents such as strip maps, easements plats, legal descriptions, and boundary surveys; manage survey contracts and provide scope and direction for preliminary surveys.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform related work as required or as delegated by the Manager of Right-of-Way and Property.

Qualifications

Training and Experience:

Required Skills: An associate degree or 60 college credit hours in related field and four years of professional land surveying experience. Must have a current Professional Land Survey License (PLS) in the State of Missouri.

Desirable Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Knowledge of the terms, procedures and means and methods of the design and construction of public improvements, especially sewer construction; considerable skill in understanding and interpreting maps and construction documents; considerable skill in oral and written communication, development of business relations, and coordination with public agencies; considerable skill in the use of AutoCAD and associated software; ability to supervise the work of others. 

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employ resides.

SURVEYOR ASSISTANT

Job Description

Mainly survey fieldwork associated with the preparation of engineering, construction, topographic, boundary and other engineering surveys. 

Essential Functions: Set up and operate modern survey equipment used in performing field survey work; record instrument readings using standard survey procedures; calculate distances, locations and angles and related measurements using standard formulas and methods; maintain field notes and draw diagrams for surveyor's review; operate and stock survey vehicles; maintain survey equipment; clear brush from survey path; transport equipment and instruments in the field.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.

Qualifications

Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of experience in sub-professional engineering and field survey work.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good knowledge of the methods, techniques, and equipment used in field surveying work; good knowledge of the computations used in field surveying and related work; working skill in the operation and care of surveying instruments; working skill in performing trigonometry computations of angles, areas, distances and traverses; ability to work with total station, GPS receiver, data collectors and levels; ability to follow special instructions and established procedures given by written and oral direction; ability to assist in the training and supervision of subordinate field personnel; ability to maintain accurate and complete engineering records and notes.
