The Mark Twain has an opening for a Professional Land Surveyor (or nearly licensed LSIT) to serve as a Forest Surveyor (North Zone) on the Mark Twain National Forest. The duty station will be Rolla or Salem Missouri. This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to ply their craft working on large Public Land Survey System (PLSS) projects based on General Land Office (GLO) survey corners. Much of the work is within the North Zone, which ranges between Fredericktown and Houston, MO with some projects happening Forest-wide across the 29 counties which contain the Mark Twain National Forest’s Districts. Duties range from field surveying and drafting to contract administration for private firms working on the Forest as well. The work is fast-paced, with multiple projects ongoing at the same time such as Township-scale cadastral surveys to small quarter-mile line posting to define National Forest boundaries. The Zone Surveyor will be supported by a survey technician as part of a two-person team, and may combine forces with the entire Boundary and Title staff for major projects.
The successful candidate will be expected to be a self-starter with strong PLSS/GLO skills, as well as competent in GPS/RTK/conventional fieldwork, CAD drafting, and spoken/written communication.
