Construction Site Surveyor

Job Title: Construction Site Surveyor

Location: Seattle, Washington

Reports to: Project Manager and under the supervision of Chief Surveyor


American Bridge Company is seeking applicants for the position of Construction Site Surveyor. The ideal candidate would have at least three to five years of experience in responsible charge of bridge and heavy highway construction projects, including all field and office calculations, scheduling, staking, field notes, submittals, and communications. Must possess strong self-motivation, attention to detail, communication skills and the ability to work well and collaborate with others in a team environment.

This is a union surveying position, falling under the State of Washington Operators Local 302 at full journeyman’s scale for the position of construction site surveyor. Under the current contract, the rate for this position is $47.94/hr. plus fringes, with an increase to $51.02/hr. in June of 2020. Please see current Local 302 contract for more details.

Applicants must be willing to work overtime and Saturdays.   

Technical Skills

The ideal candidate will possess a complete understanding and practical experience in the operation of surveying equipment including total stations, robotic total stations, RTK GPS, data collectors, Carson SurvCE software and auto levels. Additionally, the candidate will need strong computer software skills including CAD, Carlson Survey, and Microsoft Office.

Mathematical skills

The candidate needs to possess knowledge and the ability to apply skill in basic math, algebra, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, statistics and spatial data analysis, as pertains to surveying.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, interpret and apply construction plans, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
