Starting Annual Salary:  $34,000.00-$36,500.00

 

The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Division of Weights and Measures, State Land Survey Program has a full-time, benefited position located in Rolla, Missouri.


Job Summary:

This is a mid-level land survey technician position.  This position will assist in locating the corners and lines of the United States Public Land Survey System (USPLSS) established by the deputy surveyors working under contract for the General Land Office.  Duties include performing research for in-house survey projects, reviewing record survey plats, maps and other various survey documents to prepare field worksheets, downloading and processing field data, and performing survey calculations utilizing Carlson Surveying Software.  Other duties include operating Global Positioning System (GPS) and total station equipment to collect survey data to complete in-house cadastral and geodetic projects, and overseeing and participating in the restoration and reestablishment of lost or obliterated corners with the installation of MDA aluminum pipe monuments.  This position includes the ability to oversee and participate in surveys to determine heights of points above the North American Vertical Datum, surveys to determine the state plane coordinates of control stations and land boundary corners, and to perform field procedures to preserve existing horizontal and vertical control monuments.  Other duties include completing preliminary and final Certified Land Corner Documents and survey plats utilizing computer aided drafting (CAD) software.  Assignments shall be performed under the general supervision of a licensed professional land surveyor or an administrative supervisor.


The applicant should have intermediate knowledge of federal and state laws relating to cadastral and geodetic surveying and the principles and practices of cadastral and geodetic surveying.  Intermediate knowledge of modern survey methods and survey devices, such as total stations, Global Positioning System (GPS), and data collectors is required.  In addition, data processing and adjustment capabilities for land survey work are needed.  Applicants must possess the ability to train and direct other land survey technical assistants in appropriate land survey techniques and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, representatives of other agencies, contractors, and the public.  Applicants must possess the ability to communicate effectively, prepare clear, concise reports, and the ability to travel throughout the state in the performance of assigned duties.


Minimum Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Drafting, Surveying, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mathematics or a closely related field or four or more years of technical experience in Drafting or Land Surveying; and possession of a high school diploma or GED certificate.
